Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much from scary stories but this collection actually delivered! The individual stories were tasteful, interesting, funny (when intended) and creepy at most. I’m so glad I was proven wrong by my preconceived notions about a book. It’s a delightful read. Not Insidious scary, no, the stories have a soul, where you end up caring about the characters. A good Halloween read.

First, buy this book! I can’t express fully how much I enjoyed each story and the characters! Gosh, I love Wolfie!

After each story, I felt like it was the best story in the book and my favourite one. But--how can I choose just one?!? Right! I can’t!
From graveyards to mirrors in haunted houses to a highly creative waiting room in hell to spiders and moths—Ocean is a genius at creating such imaginative characters and stories. Creepy stories. Stories that make you think—what if…
I am not a fan of horror and you won’t find that in here. Things that will creep you out and maybe make you look over your shoulder or give you goosebumps but will entertain you line by line, that’s what you’ll find. Nah, I don’t give spoilers but I will gush my praise of this collection of stories.
I love how Ocean writes in the voice of her characters. She captures the essence of the characters in her dialogue so well, I imagine I can hear their voice. True, these are short stories but they will last in your memory. Did I mention I love this book?
If you’ve ever seen The Twilight Zone or The X-Files, you’re going to love this book of short stories. Just don’t read them too late at night—just sayin’.

A few little bits… Boo!

Each story in this collection is written very well. They aren’t gory tales of terror, but they will have you reading with a light on. Ocean has a great sense for writing tales that will make you look over your shoulder on a dark, stormy night. She has a knack for knowing what makes us hear that bump in the night or that little noise that makes us ask, “What was that?”.
Since her stories about Doll Island, she’s taken a little break to live life, but now she’s back and I’m so happy she’s writing again. Her stories have a mix of humor with her horror that make them all enjoyable reads. This book has a good mix of stories and its characters will have you rooting for them to survive whatever situation Ocean’s devious little mind puts them in.
I hope you take a minute to read these tales and enjoy them as much as I did!

This anthology was incredibly well written. As the author states in the beginning this is not a horror set of stories. No blood or guts (which is defenitely not my cup of tea), but plenty of chills and suspense. I almost didn't get past the first story as it scared the beejesuses out of me. Reading this at night with the lights low is not recommended.

The stories link together in a nice ebb and flow. While not quite romance, there are a couple stories that do lighten the pace enough that I didn't feel overwhelmed or hopeless by the mystery or darkness of it all.

I highly recommend for anyone that likes a good thrill without gore and plenty of suspense. If you liked The Twilight Zone, this should be on your must read list.

Lesbian spooky stories! Amazing! I enjoyed this book, which is to be expected because I usually enjoy what Ocean writes. This collection is full of lots of creative ideas and a bit of a range of plots/points, which kept it interesting. Lovely collection.
